What is a fixed pressure machine?

CPAP machines deliver a constant (fixed) pressure for the clinical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. They need to be set to your specific pressure requirements based on your doctor's prescription or the configuration of the existing machine. Typically, CPAP machines start with a low initial pressure, which then gradually increases to the specified treatment pressure over a predetermined period of time (ramp). This time corresponds approximately to the time it takes to fall asleep. Once the device has reached the treatment pressure, it remains constant for the rest of the sleep phase. During operation, the ramp button can be pressed at any time to reduce the air flow back to the original starting pressure.

Philips Respironics DreamStation Pro With Humidifier

The DreamStation Pro is a fixed pressure device that only delivers a constant pressure throughout the night, unlike the DreamStation Auto, which adjusts the pressure as needed each night. This device has an optional humidifier that is easy to open and therefore easy to clean. The white color ensures that it blends seamlessly into any bedroom while adding a touch of modern technology. Philips CPAP Machines' distinctive design is evident in every detail of this product.

This particular model is equipped with a heated tube and a humidifier, which together ensure that there is no condensation in the mask. There are both fixed and adaptive settings, with the latter being more flexible as it can monitor the humidity in the room and adjust accordingly. The DreamStation Pro is a very reliable device for the treatment of sleep apnea.

Benefits of Using a fixed pressure machine

A fixed-pressure CPAP machine, customized for sleep apnea treatments and/or noisy snoring, can help patients improve their quality of life by reducing daytime sleepiness and many of the unwanted symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Fixed pressure CPAP devices deliver a constant flow of air through a CPAP mask to keep the airway open during sleep. They also offer numerous comfort features such as easier exhalation, an airflow ramp function, humidification and compliance data recording. We offer a comprehensive range of fixed pressure CPAP devices and have a team of specialist CPAP consultants who will work closely with you and your doctor to ensure optimal and ongoing therapy.

Choosing the Best CPAP Machine for You

Fixed pressure CPAP devices deliver a constant air pressure to keep the airway open while the patient sleeps. To determine the optimal fixed CPAP pressure, patients typically either undergo a CPAP titration sleep study in a sleep lab or perform an automated CPAP trial period over a month under the supervision of a sleep specialist. Once the optimal pressure has been determined, patients usually receive a prescription from their doctor with the appropriate settings for the device.

It is important to get a correct diagnosis from a doctor before starting CPAP treatment. Always read the label and follow the instructions for use. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor or healthcare professional.

To increase comfort, fixed pressure CPAP machines offer a ramp function that keeps the pressure at a lower level for a set period of time before gradually increasing to the optimal treatment pressure.
