The HME (Heat Moisture Exchange) filter is a vital component for CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) therapy, offering passive humidification to users. It captures heat and moisture from exhaled breath and reintroduces it into the air stream during inhalation.

Designed to combat dryness in the lungs, the HME filter attaches to a mask elbow, necessitating proximity to exhaled moisture for optimal function. It is incompatible with masks featuring short tube extensions from the mask frame, requiring a simple elbow connection for best results.

This waterless humidification solution acts as an alternative to traditional humidifiers, effectively trapping humidity from exhalation to prevent dry mouth. Installation involves connecting the large diameter end of the HME filter to the mask and the smaller diameter end to the CPAP tube, ensuring secure connections for therapeutic efficacy.

For optimal performance, the HME filter should be replaced approximately once a week, stored in a sealed plastic bag between uses to prevent moisture accumulation. Compatible with most CPAP machines and masks, it offers a convenient solution for passive humidification during CPAP therapy, excluding certain models like the ResMed AirMini Auto CPAP Machine.
